A Fresh Season of Flavour: Introducing Our New Menus at The Horse & Groom

At The Horse & Groom, we’ve spent the last few months refining and refreshing our food offering to bring together the best of pub tradition, seasonal cooking, and our own kitchen creativity.

The result? Three freshly updated menus – each with its own character, each designed to make your visit that little bit more memorable. Whether you’re joining us for a relaxed lunch, a hearty supper, an easy bite at the bar, or a slow Sunday afternoon, we’ve got you covered.

Main Menu: Pub Classics Elevated

Our new Main Menu celebrates everything people love about a great British pub – comfort, flavour, and generous portions – all while introducing a few standout newcomers to keep things exciting.

You’ll find familiar favourites like The Groom’s Signature Pie, Beer-Battered or Baked Catch of the Day, and Slow-Roasted BBQ Pork Ribs, each lovingly made in-house with rich sauces, crisp chips, and fresh seasonal veg. Steak lovers will be pleased to see premium 8oz Rump and 8oz Sirloin cuts, served with your choice of sauce for the perfect finishing touch.

But the new dishes are where things really start to shine. Look out for our Pan-Seared Scallops with sesame pea purée, the indulgent Panko Brie Trilogy, and favourites from the forest itself – including New Forest Pannage Sausage, crafted from rare-breed pigs fed on acorns and beechmast during the ancient Pannage season.

Our vegetarian and vegan guests will love the new Portobello Halloumi Stack, a hearty, flavour-packed dish finished with balsamic glaze and rocket. 

And of course, meat lovers will be keen to tuck into the HaGyu Homemade Burger, stacked high and crowned with onion rings, which remains proudly on the menu – now joined by more ways to customise, including your choice of cheeses.

Bar Menu: Easy Bites & Pub - Perfect Comforts

When you’re here for a pint, a chat, or a quick bite with friends, the Bar Menu brings together all the relaxed favourites you want from a country pub.

The Souper Sandwiches – served until 5pm – offer hearty fillings like Crispy Bacon & Brie, the new Fishwich, and the fully-loaded CBLT, each paired with fries, salad, and coleslaw for a satisfying meal. For something warming, you can swap your fries for a cup of soup.

Craving something a little indulgent? Our Smothered Fries selection takes loaded chips to the next level, with toppings like Chilli Beef, BBQ Pulled Pork, and Festive Fries Surprise, a seasonal special full of wintery flavour.

You’ll also find pub favourites such as Scampi with Fries, Cajun-Spiced Halloumi Sticks, Battered Chicken Fillets, and our always-popular Mexican Nachos – perfect for sharing… or not sharing at all.

Simple, comforting, satisfying – the Bar Menu is made for casual, happy afternoons and evenings at The Horse.

Sunday Menu: A Proper New Forest Roast

Sundays at The Horse & Groom are something special, and our new Sunday Menu leans fully into tradition: generous roasts, crisp potatoes, real gravy, and plenty of reasons to linger a little longer.

Each roast – whether it’s the Chef’s Choice Cut of Prime Beef, Slow Roast Belly Pork, Chicken Quarter, or our Vegan Moving Mountains Nut Roast –comes with all the classic trimmings: Yorkshire pudding, roast carrots, seasonal vegetables, cauliflower cheese, and golden roast potatoes.

For those who can’t decide, the Mix Roast (3 Meats) brings the best of everything to one plate.

The Sunday Menu also includes selections from our “While You Wait” and “Starting Line” dishes, such as Game Terrine, Thai Chilli Whitebait, Panko Brie Trilogy, and Chef’s Soup of the Day, ensuring you can make a whole afternoon of it.
