Our story
Steeped in history, The Horse has long been a cornerstone of the Woodgreen community. Our commitment to preserving the essence of a traditional country inn is evident in our old-school bar and classic décor. At the same time, we’ve embraced contemporary touches to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for our guests.

Meet the owners
Mark and Nicole moved to Woodgreen in 2019, drawn by their love of the New Forest after years of visits with their family, dogs, and horses. When the opportunity arose to purchase their cherished village pub in 2023, they jumped at the chance. With a passion for hospitality and a shared vision, they’ve infused the Horse with warmth, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere.
Mark brings experience from aviation, business consultancy, and hospitality events, while Nicole’s varied background spans executive support, online retail, and animal care. Together, they focus on creating a pub where excellent food, great drinks, and good company come together – all with a personal touch at the heart of the Woodgreen community.
Independently owned and passionately run
At The Horse, we take pride in being a truly independent pub. Unlike many venues today, we’re not tied to a brewery, controlled by shareholders, or part of a large pub chain. This means we have the freedom to hand-pick our drinks, craft our menus, and create an experience that feels personal, not corporate. It’s this independence that allows us to stay true to what a great pub should be: welcoming, characterful, and genuinely local.
Culinary excellence
Our menu showcases a fusion of traditional British fare and international cuisine crafted with the finest locally sourced ingredients. In addition to our main offerings, we feature a weekly Specials Board and an innovative Trials Board, inviting guests to explore new and exciting dishes.
Complementing our food, we serve a selection of local real ales, highlight emerging breweries, and offer an extensive wine list and range of spirits!
