St George’s Day is a time to celebrate all things English, from tradition and history to the food and drink we know and love. Held each year on 23rd April, it honours St George, the patron saint of England, and has long been associated with community, storytelling, and a good gathering around the table.
This year, we’re marking the occasion in the best way we know how, with a relaxed, welcoming pub atmosphere, classic dishes, and a lively evening to bring everyone together.
Join us at The Horse & Groom for a proper St George’s Day celebration.
A classic English Fayre menu
At the heart of the day is a menu built around traditional favourites, the kind of dishes that feel right at home in a country pub.
For £22, enjoy two courses alongside a pint, served all day from 12pm to 9pm.
Choose from a selection of classic mains (Pie and Mash, Fish & Chips, Sausages served in Yorkshire Pudding and Cottage Pie), and for dessert, something sweet to round things off (Eton Mess, Apple Pie, or a choice of local English ice cream).
It’s simple, hearty food, done properly, and best enjoyed at a table with good company.
An evening of quiz and camaraderie
As the evening rolls in, we’ll be keeping the celebrations going with a fun, English-themed pub quiz from 7.30pm.
Expect a mix of questions, some familiar, some a little trickier, and plenty of friendly competition along the way.
Tables can be booked from 6pm, giving you time to settle in before the quiz begins. Entry is £2 per person, with prizes up for grabs on the night.
